If you don't already have a helmet, get one.

Many dangers are lurking in the mountains, some of them hidden, some not.  Avalanche dangers are only increasing as more and more people venture into backcountry.  Be aware of your surroundings when skiing out of bounds.  Always have the proper gear!

A shovel and a transceiver should be worn by each member of your backcountry party. If you get caught in an avalanche situation, nothing would be worse than not having the tools needed to save your friend or loved one.  Be smart.
